MP180 Software Update

Updating the software on the Pocket projector will take about 10 minutes and is easy to do. The instructions below will guide you through the update process.

How to determine the current software version on the pocket projector?

The Software Version is displayed on the FW Upgrade screen‚ after the “Current FW:”

Steps:

  1. Turn on the Pocket Projector.
  2. Once the Home Screen appears‚ tap the Settings button. Settings Button icon
  3. Tap the FW Upgrade button. Upgrade Button icon
  4. At the top of screen‚ you will find the software version after the words “Current FW”.
What you need for the Update
  1. 3M Pocket Projector.
  2. Power Supply for the Pocket Projector.
  3. microSD™ card (2 MB or greater).
  4. Computer with internet connection.
  5. Upgrade files: upgrade.img
  6. USB to micro USB cable.
Download the software to your computer

Steps:

  1. The software upgrade files are in an 52 Mb zip file that must be downloaded from 3M.
  2. Click on one of the links below:

  3. When the file download dialog box appears‚ click Save.
  4. When the Save As dialog box appears‚ select the computer’s Desktop. (This makes it easy to find the file after it is downloaded from 3M.)
  5. You will see a new zip archive file on the computer’s desktop.
  6. Open the file using a zip utility software.
  7. When opened‚ you will find one file within the zip file: upgrade.img.
  8. Extract this file onto the computer’s desktop.
  9. Proceed to "How to update the Pocket Projector's Software." NOTE: Do not double-click upgrade.img because your computer will try to open it and give you an error. The upgrade.img file is intended for the projector not your computer.
How to update the Pocket Projector’s software

Steps:

  1. When the upgrade is performed‚ all files on pocket projector may be deleted. Please back up your files before performing the upgrade.
  2. Attach the power supply to the Pocket Projector.

  3. Insert the microSD™ card into the Pocket Projector. Plug the projector into the USB port on your computer.

  4. Power up the projector.
  5. Select SD card in Mass Storage Source settings. From the home screen‚ tap the Settings Settings Button icon icon‚ then the Machine Settings icon Machine Settings Button icon and finally the Mass Storage Source button. Select SD card from the list and the screen will return to the Machine Setting screen. Tab the Back button twice and return to the home screen.
  6. Connect the projector to the USB port on your computer and a new removable disk will appear in the file browser on the computer. This new removable disk is the microSD card in the MP180 projector. Note: If you do not see either the projector’s model number label or microSD™ removable disk in Windows Explorer‚ you must reassign the drive to a new drive letter not already used by another drive. Please refer to KB297694 on the Microsoft Support Website.
  7. Open the microSD™ drive from your computer and create a folder labeled “upgrade”.
  8. Copy upgrade.img into the upgrade folder.
  9. After the file copy is complete‚ disconnect the USB cable from the Projector and Computer. Once the USB cable is unplugged‚ the projector the touch screen on the projector will display the home screen.
  10. Open the Settings menu. Settings Button icon
  11. Select the firmware upgrade icon Upgrade Button icon and tap the Yes button.
  12. The upgrade will take about 10 minutes to complete. Do not remove the microSD™ card or power during the upgrade. This would disrupt the upgrade and the projector will no longer function.
  13. The projector will automatically restart when the upgrade is complete.

Software Download Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When I try to upgrade the firmware on the MP180‚ the MP180 says “90bi.fw not found” and I cannot upgrade the firmware.
A: Change the name and file extension of “upgrade.img” file to “90bi.fw” and place it onto SD card in the “upgrade” folder. Once you have placed the SD card into MP180‚ follow these steps:

  1. Attach the power supply to the Pocket Projector.

MPro150 Software Update

Updating the software on the Pocket projector will take about 10 minutes and is easy to do. The instructions below will guide you through the update process.

How to determine the current software version on the pocket projector?

The Software Version is displayed in the Settings Menu Settings Button icon. In the lower‚ right-hand corner‚ there is a number proceeded by the letter “V”. For example: “V1.1.0”.

Steps:

  1. Turn on the Pocket Projector.
  2. Once the Home Screen appears‚ navigate to the Settings Menu Icon Settings Button icon.
  3. Press the ENTER button.
  4. There is a number proceeded by the letter “V” in the lower‚ right-hand corner of the screen. This is the version of software currently installed on the pocket projector.
What you need for the Update
  1. 3M Pocket Projector.
  2. Power Supply for the Pocket Projector.
  3. microSD™ card (2 MB or greater).
  4. Computer with internet connection.
  5. Upgrade files: upgrade.img and upgrade.md5
  6. Pocket Projector USB cable.
Download the software to your computer

Steps:

  1. The software upgrade files are in an 98 Mb zip file that must be downloaded from 3M.
  2. Click on one of the links below:

  3. When the file download dialog box appears‚ click Save.
  4. When the Save As dialog box appears‚ select the computer’s Desktop. (This makes it easy to find the file after it is downloaded from 3M.)
  5. You will see a file on the computer’s desktop named MPro150_Software_1.4.zip.
  6. Open the MPro150_Software_1.4.zip file using a zip utility software.
  7. When opened‚ you will find two files within the zip file: upgrade.img and upgrade.md5.

Instructions for Computers running Microsoft® Windows®

Steps:

  1. Turn on the Pocket Projector.
  2. Connect the USB Cable to the projector and your computer running Microsoft Windows.
  3. The Pocket Projector’s model number should appear in your computer’s My Computer window as a disk drive label. For example: “MPro150”.
  4. Right-Click the projector’s disk drive icon and the context menu will appear.
  5. Select Properties from the context menu‚ and the Properties dialog box will appear.
  6. Select the Tools tab.
  7. In the Error-Checking section‚ Click the Check Now button and the Check Disk dialog box will appear.
  8. In the Check disk options section‚ select Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.
  9. Click the Start button and Windows will scan the MPro150 internal memory for errors and fix the errors.

Instruction for computers running Mac OS 10

Steps:

  1. Open the Disk Utility Utilities folder in the Applications folder.
  2. Select the Disk label for your PocketProjector MPro150 from the list on the left side of the window.
  3. Click the Repair Disk button on the bottom‚ right-hand side of the window.
  4. The Disk Utility will check the Pocket Projector’s internal memory and fix any problems.
